About the Author
Gregory E. Bottomley received his PhD in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University in 1989 and has eighteen years of industrial experience in wireless communications research at Ericsson. Serving as editor-in-chief for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology from 2000-2003, Dr. Bottomley holds more than one hundred U.S. patents, in addition to publishing thirteen journal papers, six journal letters, an encyclopedia article and forty-five conference papers. He was Ericsson Inventor of the Year in 1997 and IEEE Fellow in 2007.

Excellent reference for radio receivers

The author has been at the forefront of research on receiver architectures for digital cellular telephones and is one of few people in the world who should be allowed to explain the techniques taught in the book. This book brings a very complex topic down to earth in ways that are accessible to anyone with a basic knowledge of linear dynamical systems, signal processing and detection theory. The book is unique in avoiding complicated notation and in the use of simple examples to illustrate concepts. Yet it does not stint on rigor for the advanced student. Dr. Bottomley has the rare ability to narrate the mathematics in a way that is very accessible to readers at a wide variety of levels of understanding, and in keeping the interest level up to forge ahead. This book is an excellent textbook for an advanced level undergraduate or beginning graduate course on communication receivers, and is a valuable addition to any practicing engineer's bookshelf. It spans the vast array of equalization techniques starting with treatment of inter-symbol interference for TDM signals in dispersive channels and extends the basic concepts in a unified fashion to more advanced receivers for CDMA and for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems. The problems at the back of the chapters are thoughtful and serve to improve understanding.

Written by a well-respected expert in the field, this book covers nearly everything one needs to know about equalization for wireless communications. The explanations are easy to understand and to the point.
