About the Author

Michael D. Coogan is Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies at Stonehill College, Lecturer in the Hebrew Bible / Old Testament at Harvard Divinity School, and Director of Publications for the Harvard Semitic Museum. One of the leading biblical scholars in the United States, he is the author of The Old Testament: A Historical and Literary Introduction to the Hebrew Scriptures, Second Edition (OUP, 2010), the editor of Oxford Biblical Studies Online, and a coeditor of The New Oxford Annotated Bible, New Revised Standard Version, Fourth Edition (OUP, 2010).

Good for indepth Old Testament Study

This is a good book for an indepth study of the Old Testament. Coogan does a good job of placing the Old Testament in context with history and other cultures around the Israelites. This book was required for my seminary class on the Old Testament. The only reason I didn't give it 5 starts is that it is a little expensive (not so much for a college text book though) and may be a little too indepth for the average Bible study. It would make a good reference for someone leading a Bible study on the Old Testament. It may challenge preconceived ideas that some may have about the authors and time frame of the Old Testament books, just remember the Old Testament is not about who wrote the text, but who inspired the text. If you want a book that places the different periods of the Old Testament into context, this is a good source.

Excellent Biblical Reference

The textbook provides an in depth insight into the Old Testament presented in a factual manner. Other ancient texts are introduced and linked to similar events in the Bible without judgment or an opinion. The reader responsible for his or her decision as to reliability and accuracy. I enjoyed reading the textbook; it opened up a world not taught in religious and Sunday schools. I highly recommend this text to anyone with an unbiased interest in the Old Testament.

Disappointing / Too Many Early Single-Line Transcriptions

For me, the most worthwhile are the selections from Virtuoso 2 and perhaps a single line solo from a personal favorite, (the underrated, I think) 'Intercontinental'.

But if you're interested mostly in chord-solo transcriptions (and let's face it, as solid as Joe's line work was, it's chord melody that set him apart and is the main reason he's remembered today) - there's entirely too much from the early Pacific Jazz era including things available elsewhere. You'll likely be far better off zeroing in on what you want from the Mel Bay-published transcriptions and/or Wolf Marshall's ("Explore the style of") series.

Bottom line for me: Unless you absolutely must have everything, there's just not enough of interest here to justify the purchase.

Very good selection

The authors of these excellent transcriptions are not on the cover, so first of all thanks to: Pete Billmann, Aurelien Budynek, Jeff Jacobson, and Paul Pappas.

Below is the list of tunes arranged by album. As others have noted, these are mostly incomplete transcriptions so I've added the track time where the transcription actually starts. I docked a point from the rating for the unexplained reason why Joe's statement of the theme is missing from some these.

If you want examples of Joe Pass single line soloing Wolf Marshal's book is a better product.

I was really excited for this book based on the list of song titles, but as other reviews state the versions of most songs are single line solos that sound relative bland compared to Pass's chord melody work (in my opinion). I would not buy this book knowing what I know now and feel mislead that they do not list what recordings each song is transcribed from upfront. If you want examples of Joe Pass single line soloing Wolf Marshal's book is a better product.

This is the second part of a major theoretical work by Patrik Schumacher, which outlines how the discipline of architecture should be understood as its own distinct system of communication. Whereas the first volume provides the theoretical groundwork for Schumacher’s ideas – focusing on architecture as an autopoeitic system, with its own theory, history, medium and its unique societal function – the second volume addresses the specific, contemporary challenges and tasks that architecture faces. It formulates these tasks, looking specifically at how architecture is seeking to organize and articulate the complexity of post-fordist network society. The volume explicitly addresses how current architecture can upgrade its design methodology in the face of an increasingly demanding task environment, characterized by both complexity and novelty. Architecture’s specific role within contemporary society is explained and its relationship to politics is clarified. Finally, the new, global style of Parametricism is introduced and theoretically grounded.

About the Author

Patrik Schumacher is partner at Zaha Hadid Architects. He joined Zaha Hadid in 1988. He studied philosophy and architecture in Bonn, Stuttgart and London. In 1999 he completed his PHD at the Institute for Cultural Science, Klagenfurt University. His contribution to the discourse of contemporary architecture is also evident in his prior writings (Digital Hadid, London 2004) as well as in his work as a curator (Latent Utopias, Graz 2002). Currently he is working on an exhibition showcasing Parametricism.

The links between a pregnant woman’s physical health and her baby’s subsequent development are widely known. Less well understood are the behavioral and emotional processes that develop during the same nine months. In Psychosocial Adaptation to Pregnancy, seven dimensions of maternal emotional health are identified―including acceptance of the pregnancy, motivation to take on the role of motherhood, relationships with husband/partner and with her own mother, preparation for labor, self-esteem, and sense of control―that have significant impact on delivery, postpartum adaptation, infant health, and early childhood development. Backed by the authors’ original research and interviews, the book provides readers with a first-of-its kind analysis of the role of these core functions throughout pregnancy, as well as practical materials for use with pregnant clients in the form of assessment tools and evidence-based interventions for promoting positive development. It is particularly noteworthy that the Surgeon General of the United States has recommended measurement of prenatal psychosocial and behavioral risk factors to improve the screening of psychosocial risks and responses for purposes of addressing these risk factors.

About the Author
Regina Lederman, MNEd, MA, PhD, is a behavioral scientist, as well as a nurse and a practicing marital and family therapist, who also has 30 years of research experience in the field of maternal psychosocial development. She has published extensively, both original research and reviews, on intervention approaches to decrease maternal anxiety and promote adaptation to pregnancy. Dr. Lederman is a Professor in the School of Nursing and in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Community Health at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She has an extensive writing background of scientific journal articles, books and questionnaires pertaining to pregnancy, childbirth, and early adaptation to motherhood. She has been editor of International Journal for Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and most recently served as a consultant on a pregnancy and postpartum adaptation assessment project conducted with four branches of the military. An earlier edition of the proposed book, published by Prentice-Hall in 1985, received the American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award. She is a member of the Society of Behavioral Medicine, the Nurses Association of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Nurses Association, the Society for Research in Child Development, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Society for Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynecology.

I would definitely get this book if your hesitating, its so easy and fun to read! just might want to close your eyes if you don't like looking at fish guts :p but I would get it in a heartbeat if I were you!!!!!!!

I was curious about what would make this e-book worth my buy, as this is one story we all knew well since childhood. But by the time I read it with the excellent graphics which enabled me to picture exactly how Jonah's body looked after his "big fish" experience, among others, I was really touched by the goodness and mercies of God especially to the very wicked and evil people of Nineveh. The icing on the cake for me was the linkage of the fact that like Jonah, Jesus came as our saviour and would also spend 3 days and nights in the heart of the earth. It is therefore a powerful evangelical tool and I recommend it to all.

David Kissane is Professor/Director of Palliative Medicine and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne, President of The International Psycho-Oncology Society and an internationally renowned psycho-oncologist, bereavement researcher and clinician.

Sidney Bloch has a personal Chair in Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne, is an internationally regarded teacher and has authored several books on psychotherapy, ethics and families.
